New WorldArgentinaAlta Vista
Founded in 1890, the restoration of this historic Mendoza winery owes much to the late Jean Michel Arcaute who was twice named 'winemaker of the year' by Robert Parker.

Now owned by the d'Aulan family, of Piper Heidsieck fame, the vineyards and winery have received substantial investment, including the instillation of temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, in their pursuit of quality.

Their vineyards benefit from an altitude of more than 1,000 metres and are bathed in 300 days of sunshine a year. All the fruit, from vines with a minimum age of 20 years, is handpicked and undergoes rigorous select, as only the best will do, prior to entering the winery.

A variety that is more commonly known for being grown in Central Italy, it has a gulpable cherry and plum character set off with a hit of vanilla. Alta Vista's fine example has plenty of grip and is great with beef dishes, pork or pizza.

At over 1,000 metres, the Lujan de Cujo vineyard responsible for this mouthwatering Chardonnay is distinctly high altitude. The wine has a faintly floral bouquet, a fine definition of flavour and a crisp, juicy palate.

Argentina's celebrated grape variety, offering smooth spicy fruit and a claret-like sophistication. Precise wine-making ensures a velvet-textured palate and a long enticing finish.

Malbec rosé is not a common sight but on the strength of this wine we should be seeing a lot more of it. Rich and reassuring in colour it has a wonderful sweet nose of ripe cassis and red cherry fruit. The palate is a delight, with bags of sweet fresh red berry fruit and a lovely pure edge. This is a dry wine that is rapped in luscious sweet fruit.

The Torrontés grape thrives in the hot conditions of Argentina producing a wine full of soft creamy peach fruit and hint of floral edges with a zesty clean lemony fruit on the palate.
